The mission of the Arthur Williams Middle School Library Media Center is to create an instructional partnership with the school community, to create and nurture lifelong readers, and to develop policies and curriculum that are in keeping with 21st century technology and AASL Standards. The Media Center is to be an extension of the classroom and school learning environment in order to stimulate an appreciation of learning and reading. Our Library Media Center will strive to provide a variety of resources to augment and support the curriculum, aid and collaborate with teachers in order to integrate information sources as well as technology into the present curriculum, and encourage the love of reading among the student body. The staff and resources of the media center are present to nurture intellectual development of the Arthur Williams Middle School students, faculty, and staff, as well as to foster the development of consumers and creators of information and technology, and to help foster self-reliance, critical thinking skills, and collaboration among peers. The media center will remain an open and inviting atmosphere that promotes literacy development. The student body, staff, and support personnel of the school should view the media center as the center of learning in the school.

- working within the school community (students, teachers, administration, and parents) to meet the educational needs of the media center patrons through the use of a variety of media, text, and technological resources.
- providing modern technology resources, training for patrons on the use of technology, and teaching current copyright laws and fair use guidelines.
- creating a safe and stimulating learning environment that supports both state standards and encourages students to read for pleasure.
- providing a range of materials that supports state and local standards to supplement the learning environment inside and outside the classroom.
- maintaining current best practices for media library programs through active membership in national and local professional organizations, participating in a professional learning network, and attending/presenting at conferences.
