Martha Bongiorno, Our Library Media Specialist
Hello! It's wonderful to meet you!
My bachelor's degree was earned in middle grades education with concentrations in Social Science and English from Georgia College and State University, but I have always had a heart for reading and technology, which led me on the path to earn my Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology from the University of Georgia. I am currently pursuing my specialist degree to question and deepen my understanding of the digital world in which we live.
My passion for reading continues to grow because I see it as the gateway to learning more about the layers of the world around us. Dr. Seuss says that “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Golly, was he right! I enjoy learning from the novels I read and reading for sheer entertainment. My favorite novels include any novel which has Percy Jackson as a main character, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, and Pride and Prejudice. I have an eclectic taste in what I enjoy reading, from articles of entertainment to text that makes me question everything.
In addition to reading, I am advocate for effective use of technology in the educational environment. Through my years teaching at an IB World School, a STEAM school, and now a rural Coastal Georgia school, I have explored many technological avenues for learning from Chromebook use, online programs for the curriculum, iPads in the classroom, website design, Google apps and iPad apps for the classroom, blogging, and other forms of new digital literacies. Do you have a passion or interest in technology? Let's talk!
When I am not "Mrs. Bongi the School Library Media Specialist," I am mommy to a precious little girl, Izzy, a spunky little inquirer, and a precious baby boy, Aris, an explorer of all things eye-level. I absolutely love music, anything from hip-hop to jazz and classical to techno. Music is a universal language and brings all walks of life together. I enjoy spending time being a nerd with my husband by exploring historical sites and museums, spending time with family, hiking, being outdoors, and traveling.
